Product Overview

UtreSept - Intra Uterine Flush
Utresept is an all new intra uterine flush made from natural ingredients using new polysaccharide technology. The advantages of Utresept are many, being non toxic, food safe, hypoallergenic and non corrosive. Utresept has a prolonged residual effect, requires no rinsing and unlike many conventional antiseptics its action is not depleted by contact with organic material.

Origin - Utresept was developed over the last five years by Marabou in the UK. It is part of their Goliath product line. It is packaged and distributed in North America exclusively by Integrated Bio Systems.

How it Works - Utresept's anti-microbial power is due to a synergistic action created by a reaction between natural organic acids and natural sugars. When Utresept is introduced into the uterus these natural organic acids and sugars combine with those naturally present in the animal to create a powerful and lasting effect. This gives Utresept its unique physical, chemical and biological properties.

FDA - All the ingredients in Utresept are listed by the FDA as having a GRAS status - Generally Regarded As Safe.

When to Use

- Utresept is normally used when the animal is 12 days past calving and is showing signs of Metritis.
- When the animal is palpated prior to breeding and there are abnormalities with the uterus and Metritis is obvious or even suspected.
- After Insemination - Use UtreSept between one hour and twenty four hours after insemination. Although Utresept is not spermicidal it is preferred to flush the uterus after the egg is fertilized.
The advantage with this product is that because it is not a drug and there is no milk with holding Utresept can be given in a "just to be sure" scenario without being concerned about the cost of discarded milk. Utresept can be used on cows with conception problems where low level Metritis is undetectable but may be suspected as the cause.

General - Retained fetal membranes and uterine infections in dairy cows result in substantial costs to the dairy industry. These conditions impair subsequent fertility, reduce milk production and often require veterinary treatment. The uterus is the part of the reproductive tract that supports the growth of the embryo and fetus. When the uterus is infected, fertilization and survival of the embryo can be reduced. Immediately after calving, bacteria and other organisms can be found in the uterus. However, over the next six weeks, healthy cows remove these microbes, resulting in an uninfected uterus, When this process fails or is delayed, abnormal uterine infection occurs. Standard treatment for uterine infections include infusion with antibiotics and/or antiseptics such as iodine. Antiseptics have the advantage of not leaving residues in the meat or milk, however, many antiseptics are corrosive and can irritate the lining of the uterus and decrease natural uterine defenses against infection. Antibiotics, while effective, result in the unsaleable milk which can be extremely costly, and for this reason are not recommended as a prophylactic treatment. Utresept on the other hand can be used in a prophylactic program with complete confidence. Its use will not irritate the uterine lining and there is no withdrawal of milk incurred. Utresept has been successfully used by veterinarians and dairymen since it's introduction into North America in the first quarter of 2000.

Directions For Use

Utresept is packaged in 500ml bottles as a concentrated product. For use, it is mixed with sterile demineralized water at the rate of 5 parts sterile water to one part of Utresept. The average flush amount given to dairy cows is 60 mls - 100 mls per flush. It is important however, to distinguish between post partum Metritis and pre-breeding Endo-Metritis. In the case of post partum Metritis, irrigation of the cervical area using up to 300 - 400 ccs of a Tetracycline preparation is the norm.

Where toxic reaction is suspected
, i.e.: fever, etc. Antibiotic treatment should be adhered to. If there is no fever present, irrigation with 300 ccs of Utresept is acceptable. Utresept has its greatest impact on pre breeding Endo-Metritis. Some herdsman use 100 mls per flush on difficult cases with good results. Water for diluting can be purchased in 5 gallon containers from local companies that supply sterile, demineralized drinking water for humans. Once mixed into ready to use form will be stable for a year as long as it is in a sealed container.
